The word Machismo is derived from Spanish and
Portuguese. In those cultures, this word refers to the belief in the supremacy
of men over women. However, the definition of the word is different in English
language. Where the word has some negative and backward connotations in those
languages; the symbolic ideology changes when this word is spoken or written in
English. Here, it means being manly.
This is not necessarily a good thing. Words carry a lot of power. Many believe
that language should be devoid of gender constructs as that would help remove
them from the physical world as well. This concept is closely related to
clothing, in particular, designer leather jackets for men.
But how is clothing related to gender inequality? The
same way words are. Let us revert back to the image of man as macho. Designer leather jacket men have a
feminine sound to it. All terms associated with fashion are often said to be
feminine. Men want clothing in black or brown, clothing that hangs loosely
about the body, basically, clothing that is manly. But what is macho clothing?
Is it made of rougher cloth? Gone are the days when women were meant to wear
the softer materials. However, clothing has long been a medium of inequality.
In the olden days, silk and such materials were only meant for royalty. The
image of designer leather jackets for
men is an indirect facet of that. Then, the kings and monarchs were the
ones who could wear colours such as red or purple. The ‘peasant’ class had its
own colours and etc. Designer leather
jacket men today have the same quality. Not that it can only be worn by monarchs.
Rather, this outer wear too has restrictions that have nothing to do with the
article itself. Guys still hesitate in buying such an item because of its name.
Moreover, these items have a more flashy design. They are louder than other
plain outer wear. And part of the macho image is plain clothing.
Designer leather jackets for
men can be a little
form fitting. They can have studs or chains and etc on them. Some guys might
hesitate to buy them. But that has more to do with our own mind set then the actual
style. Metropolitan cities have no problem with this but the smaller towns are
not big proponents of designer leather
jacket men. Take our childhood movies and shows for instance. All girls
wanted to be Cinderella and all boys wanted to be batman or Hercules. But when
we see those movies today, we feel slightly uneasy. Is it perhaps all the
innuendos used in them that we did not understand as kids? Or how Cinderella’s
only chance at happiness was marriage? Or how men had to prove themselves
(Hercules) with daring deeds to gain their rightful positions in society? Designer leather jackets for men are
simply a clothing item. The most one ought to think about when buying them is
whether he will look good in it or not. The gender constructs embedded in us
since childhood make it hard to purchase
designer leather jacket men without worrying about the society.
